WHO WE ARE
The firm’s founder, Steven Odams, has specialized in custom residential architecture since 1988, working mostly in Fairfield and Westchester Counties. Prior to founding the firm in 2001, he worked his way up through the ranks of some prominent area firms, earning recognition for his insight, attention to detail, and appreciative clients. Steve has a well-rounded educational background, as on his way to receiving a Master of Arts Degree in Architecture and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Management, both from North Carolina State University, he also studied civil engineering for two years at the University of New Hampshire, and spent a semester studying architecture at the University of Copenhagen in Denmark. He is a member of the American Institute of Architects and the Connecticut Society of Architects, and is certified by the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards.
Wendy Odams, also a licensed architect, brings a lifetime of artistic experience to the firm. An accomplished painter since a young age, she contemplated a career in the arts prior to “settling” for architecture, and after receiving a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Architecture from Miami University of Ohio, Wendy went on to earn her Master’s Degree at North Carolina State University. It was there that she and Steve met, soon discovering that their combined talents could produce some very creative and well-crafted designs. Wendy also has a strong background in Interior Design, and prior to joining the firm, she was a key Project Architect for a high-profile firm in lower Fairfield County. She is still a practicing artist, and strengthens each project with her creative and sensitive approach to design. Wendy is also certified by the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards.
WHAT WE DO
Steven Odams Architects, LLC, is a small firm devoted to providing the highest level of quality and service to its clients. We believe that designing a new home or an addition/alteration is a milestone in a client’s life, and that their project should be given the attention it deserves. The emphasis is on the design process: starting with an existing architectural context, and carefully considering the needs and wishes of the client, we craft a design solution that is both sensitive in its response and thorough in its detailing. The end result is either a new home that bespeaks its inspirational origins, or an addition that seamlessly blends with the existing home.
Our designs have received numerous awards, including one from the Home Builders Association of Connecticut for the best custom home design between 3,000 and 4,000 square feet. We also take great pride in incorporating the design of interiors within the scope of our services, and our staff’s creations have graced the pages of Architectural Digest as well as other publications.
OUR APPROACH
We believe that in order for a design to be truly successful, it must be both a careful and considerate reflection of not just its context, but also of the people requesting it. On many occasions, our clients have expressed appreciation for how intently we listen to them, from the very first meeting until the project is completed, and they have been impressed with how that translates into a design solution that responds to virtually every one of their initial thoughts or concerns.
Early on, we strive to establish a team concept – owner, architect, builder. Where warranted, we also recommend utilizing the talents of landscape architects and engineers. Gone are the days of antagonistic adversaries; instead, we cultivate these relationships where the main goal of all parties is the same: the ultimate satisfaction of the client. With our extensive experience in this region, we are able to suggest contractors with whom we have worked successfully in the past, and who would be well suited to work on a particular type of project.
